I'm not talking about those who have a problem with Tebow's quarterback qualities, his throwing motion, or his "inability to make throws at the NFL level." Anyone who knows the game of football would agree that his technique leaves much to be desired. However, I wonder how anyone can negatively comment on his character, and about how he goes about his daily life. Is it their fear of their inability to live up to the standards he sets? Tebow is the most highly debated figure of his generation. Therefore, receives a great deal of criticism, even about his faith. Jake Plummer, a former NFL & Bronco quarterback, stated "I think that when he accepts the fact that we know that he loves Jesus Christ, then I think I'll like him a little better. I don't hate him because of that, I just would rather not have to hear that every single time he takes a good snap or makes a good handoff." Any person would have the right to fire back, but not Tim Tebow. He gracefully responded with the greatest comeback possible: "If you're married, and you have a wife, and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife 'I love her' the day you get married? Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and every opportunity?" His response not only renders me speechless, but is done in such a charismatic & loving manner.
To any young athlete, Tim Tebow embodies every positive quality a parent or coach searches for in a role model. His doubters only motivate him. His naysayers only fuel his fire to prove everyone wrong. Throughout his life, people have told him he couldn't play at the highest level and win championships. After every success, he quickly reverts the attention and the glory to his coaches, his teammates, and to his Lord. He was criticized after being chosen the first round of the NFL draft. His coaches & management downplayed his abilities publicly. Before the first game of the season, he was listed as the 3rd string quarterback on the depth chart. After winning his first 4 of 5 games, analysts said that he couldn't lead his team to the playoffs. Even before tonight's game, it was said he was one play away from being benched. In 7 of 8 victories this season, he has led a game winning drive. His ability to perform in clutch situations is unfathomable. His faith in his teammates, in Christ & in himself are unshakable. That faith is returned now by his teammates, his countless fans, and even his closest doubters, his coaches & organization. He has changed an entire culture. He has warmed the hearts of a nation. He makes us want to believe in something good, to believe in the impossible. People are drawn to him. If he uses that for the glory of Christ and goodness in general, I pity those who want to try to tear him down.
